Meet Shellie Hutchens

Hi Shellie! What's your role at Mediacurrent, both internally and client-related?

I am Mediacurrent’s Director of Marketing and I oversee all of our organization's marketing efforts. Basically, this means I have the privilege of showcasing our amazing team and the innovative projects we work on every day.

Give us an idea of what professional path brought you here.

Prior to Mediacurrent, I spent my career pretty well split between Client Services and Marketing. For years I worked for an experiential and digital agency helping my clients reach their target market through grassroots programs focused on schools and youth sports. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to help an organization grow from 4 to 44 people and build a good deal of the company's infrastructure for client services.

From there I spent a bit of time in the FinTech industry but it just didn't resonate with me the way Digital does. When I was looking for a new challenge, I had former colleagues at Mediacurrent who spoke very highly of the organization. After my first meeting with Dave and Paul, I knew they were right.

How did you first get involved with Drupal?

Mediacurrent was my introduction to the Drupal community and I’ve been welcomed with open arms! Every time I attend a Drupal event, I walk away with insights that help grow and better my knowledge.

What’s your proudest moment at Mediacurrent so far?

My proudest moment at Mediacurrent so far is scaling our team to reach our lead generation and content marketing goals.

Personally, I'm also proud of giving my first Drupal/Marketing Automation presentation at Drupalcamp Atlanta - video coming soon! I’ve been so impressed at the high level of presentations I see at events and it was great to contribute back to the community in that way for the first time.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy most?

It's incredibly rewarding to be able to do what you love for a company with such a great story to tell and supportive leadership. Marketing can sometimes be undervalued but at Mediacurrent we have that true “Culture of Content” from the top down that so many organizations strive for. 

Given my Client Service background, I love to create innovative strategies to reach a target market so I love being able to create a strategy to promote Mediacurrent’s brand to both potential prospects and the Drupal community on the whole. When it all comes together to generate quality leads, that's definitely a celebration of our team's sweat equity.

Also - I am a Marketing Automation/CRM/Data nerd so making Pardot and Salesforce do backflips is pretty fun too.

Any mobile apps that you use regularly?

Most of my apps focus on 2 things: Fitness and Food. I know, quite the paradox right? My mantra is: “Life is all about balance.”

On the food side, I love OpenTable and Yelp. My favorite thing to do when I travel is find a great local place and both of those apps help me do that.

On the Fitness side, I use a HIIT timer, Pinterest to find new workouts, My Fitness Pal and Map My Run. 

What do you like to do in your spare time?

My philosophy is that I’d rather give my friends and family experiences instead of gifts. So in my spare time I like to be on the go. I’m always looking for a festival, a new restaurant or a road trip. 

What do you like about Mediacurrent?

I’ve never experienced teamwork like I have at Mediacurrent. I work with a group of people who all love what we do and push ourselves to be the best we can be. Everyone is always willing to pitch in to make that happen and the results are stellar!
