Hi Nathan - thanks for letting us get to know a bit more about you! Let's get started:
1. What’s your role at Mediacurrent, both internally and client-related?
I am a Lead Drupal Architect. I work with clients to identify their needs; translate those into specifications for their Drupal system; and carry those out by leading a development team.
2. Give us an idea of what professional path brought you here
I got a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Arkansas where I first developed my love for open source software. I tried a couple technical avenues before I landed at Vocollect for over 8 years. I have now been enjoying work at Mediacurrent for just over two years.
3. How did you first get involved with Drupal?
At Vocollect, I created a team communication tool that I eventually ported to Drupal 7. I enjoyed Drupal so much that I decided to do it full time and made the switch to Mediacurrent.
4. Is there a go-to Drupal module that you like to incorporate whenever possible?
For Drupal 7 projects, I use Panels and Panelizer, but with so much changing going to Drupal 8, I haven’t quite settled on my favorites.
5. Do you have any recommended reading or books that you would suggest to others?
I have been reading stories out loud to my kids for quite a while. Of those, I really enjoyed the Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson, Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins, The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, and The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. Apart from reading to the kids, I enjoy a wide range of books from Ted Dekker and Lois Lowry to Voddie Baucham and John Piper.
6. Any mobile apps that you use regularly?
I am pretty tame with my apps. I enjoy streaming movies to my TV from the Amazon Instant Video app since it tells you all sorts of additional information like the names of all the actors in the scene. I am on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram some.
7. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy grabbing a meal out with friends, getting in a workout on my treadmill or free weights, but most of all just enjoying spending time with my wife and seven kids. I also coach a swim team in the summers and enjoy participating in the Walk for the Waiting, an annual event in Arkansas to raise awareness and funds for organizations that help kids in foster care in different ways. One of the organizations, The Call, helped us with our three adoptions.
8. What do you like about Mediacurrent?
I like so many things about Mediacurrent, but I have some favorites. I really enjoy that I am consistently challenged and am consistently learning new things. I also enjoy the people. Mediacurrent has some great people that know how to have fun, but also will help you out anytime you need it. The level of talent that I get to brush shoulders with on a daily basis is amazing.
Awesome, thanks for being apart of the Employee Spotlight series!
