Mediacurrent Takes Atlanta for Annual Company Retreat

Culture, Customer Panels and Beyond

Since its inception in 2007, Mediacurrent has put a focus on building and maintaining a strong company culture. With over 90% of our workforce being distributed, this can somehow be a challenge, but our annual employee retreat allows us the opportunity to bring the Mediacurrent team together for a few days of fun, learning, and camaraderie.

This year, the team gathered in Buckhead, a neighboring city of Atlanta, Georgia for a few days of fun, learning, and camaraderie. Buckhead is a bustling business district and provided a central location for those already in the Atlanta area, and an easy commute from the airport via MARTA.

Friday morning, we kicked things off with a Town Hall Meeting. Since we did have team members who weren’t able to join us, this was broadcast live so no one would miss out on the informative session, presented by Mediacurrent’s partners, Paul Chason and  Dave Terry. They shared exciting information about recent promotions for some Mediacurrent employees, provided feedback on the year in review, and prepared everyone for what is coming up in 2017. Sounds like another exciting year is in the works!

The meeting then segwayed over to Laurent Pierre, Head of Engineering at Code and Theory. Since Mediacurrent was acquired by Code and Theory in 2015, our customers benefit from the greater scale and depth of industry experience. Laurent joining the retreat was especially beneficial for Mediacurrent team members who may not interact with Code and Theory’s team on a daily basis.

His presentation ended with an informative and transparent Q&A session that further instilled confidence in our alignment and future together.

Last but certainly not least, we ended the company wide meeting with a customer panel moderated by our VP of Sales Josh Linard. We welcomed three active Mediacurrent customers, Todd McCarty from NCR, Rachel Haber from Rinnai, and Sallie Graves from MagMutual. Each customer did an incredible job answering questions from the Mediacurrent team and provided strong insight into what we do right, where we can improve, and how we can continue to help our customers. It was a great opportunity for those employees who are not customer-facing to interact with some of our awesome clients!

 

The Leadership team then broke out for an afternoon session with Jeff Hilimire, Founder of Dragon Army. His path has closely mirrored that of our partners so he provided an interesting perspective on continuing to build culture in a growing company without losing sight of our values. In the late afternoon breakout sessions, a little healthy competition arose as the team worked in groups to propose effective changes to forecasting and internal time tracking procedures. A consensus was reached and the results were communicated in the weekly staff meeting this week.


The rest of the team took advantage of being in the same vicinity and co-worked for the remainder of the day. I’ve never seen so many laptops in one room. For brain food, we rounded up the troops and walked across the street to Farm Burger to indulge in some grease and great conversation. Being able to witness people who’ve only virtually met, collaborate and interact with one another like they’d known each other for years was a pretty neat experience.
 

The team that bowls together, stays together

After a full days work, the team met up at The Painted Pin in Buckhead for a night of bowling, giant Jenga, and pool. There was great food (even if Robyn refused to eat the boiled peanuts), beverages, and a lot of competitiveness! I’m pretty sure our VP of Sales Josh Linard was leading the way with his competitive natures.

Friday night, the team got together for one last night of pizza and pool at Buckhead’s Gordon Biersch restaurant before returning home in the morning. There wasn’t a dull moment on the first floor.


Another retreat for the books

What an action-packed weekend it was. This was my first retreat at Mediacurrent and I’m already anxiously awaiting the next one. This is a great team and phenomenal company. I’m looking forward to continuing the journey!
