Each month, we spotlight one of our amazing team members who work hard to bring you great results. Today, we interviewed Megan Harris from our Strategy team. Let's get started!
1. What’s your role at Mediacurrent, both internally and client-related?
I am a digital strategist and work on both internal and client facing projects related to content strategy, SEO, web accessibility, copywriting, and conversion optimization.
2. Give us an idea of what professional path brought you here.
I began working in agencies as a copywriter using a portfolio primarily consisting of projects from the wedding industry (think DJs and lighting experts with some pieces in publications like Weddings in Houston magazine).
The first agency I worked at wanted to offer “SEO reviews'' to clients as a new service, so I learned quickly on my own what that meant since they were originally a traditional print focused agency.
I found that I enjoyed digital strategy work pertaining to SEO and was good at understanding how users searched the web since much of my writing up to that point involved writing for website landing pages and blog posts. My interests in writing for the web paired well with my growing understanding of how search engines work, and I never looked back!
3. How did you first get involved with Drupal?
My role at Mediacurrent is the first one I’ve had involving Drupal. I had only worked in WordPress, Joomla, and other similar CMS up until that point.
I find Drupal fascinating and advocate regularly for ensuring our projects include a good authoring experience because I understand the needs of those users well, having been a content editor for numerous years.
4. Do you have any recommended reading or books that you would suggest to others?
Too many to list!
5. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time, what’s that? Hahah. I irregularly play violin when I have free time and am terribly out of practice but have fun with it. In addition to reading music, I like to play songs by ear such when my kids have a particular song stuck in their head. My go-to party trick in high school (well, okay, I didn’t do it at parties - mostly bored in orchestra during breaks) was playing the introduction to Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and learning “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by ear.
I also enjoy adult coloring books. My favorite illustrator, Johanna Basford, broke the world record for the largest solo drawing last year! Her books are amazingly detailed and really fun to do.

6. What do you like about Mediacurrent?
I enjoy the flexibility of our staff and the way in which we adapt and support one another. I felt truly welcomed from day 1 and am so glad to keep working on interesting projects!
