Employee Spotlight: Eric Huffman

June 27, 2017

Hi Eric! Thanks for letting us get to know more about you! Let's get started!

1. What’s your role at Mediacurrent, both internally and client-related?

I am a senior front end developer, which means my role primarily involves taking designs from a polished comp to functional prototypes, and all the way to a complete Drupal theme, or other user interface. With clients I enjoy the opportunity to discover, and conceptualize the best approaches for a front end that creates the ideal user experience to support their goals.

2. Give us an idea of what professional path brought you here.

In college I studied graphic design and illustration. Although my heart was in illustration, my day jobs mostly included doing page layout work, which eventually led to web design. I quickly discovered that if I was going to take it to the next level I was going to have to learn to code. So I embraced my inner nerd, dove into the code, and haven’t looked back since!

3. How did you first get involved with Drupal?

I was first introduced to Drupal about 10 years ago in my previous job at Georgia Tech. As we know, Drupal is widely embraced in higher education, and at Tech we were no exception. Looking back, I don’t think we would have ever been able to accomplish what we did with such a small team if it wasn’t for the power, and community behind Drupal.

4. Is there a go-to Drupal module that you like to incorporate whenever possible?

As we’re doing more and more work in Drupal 8 I’ve recently become fond of the Twig Field Value module

5. Do you have any recommended reading or books that you would suggest to others?

Even if you’re not that interested in interaction design, I think two books that are still good reads for anyone working in our industry are Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug, and The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman.

6. Any mobile apps that you use regularly?

Outside of Slack, the apps I use most regularly are Spotify, Evernote, the iOS podcasts app, MLB’s At Bat, and my bank’s app.

7. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to get outdoors and either go for a hike or a bike ride.

8. What do you like about Mediacurrent?

Working remotely is great, plus the opportunity to work on challenging projects for major brands, as well as organizations helping make a difference in the world. But hands down the best thing about Mediacurrent is the amazing people, and collaborative work environment.
