Do Drupal Right

This year's theme: Drupal goes commercial! I haven't been to a lot of Drupalcons but it is interesting to see the evolution of the Drupal community. Maybe in the past it was about making Drupal into a platform that can compete with the other players in this space and attacking marketshare dominated by other CMS-es, both free and commercial. The emphasis now is definitely on Drupal shops showcasing their enterprise-level services: hosting, platform/distributions, app-stores, software-as-a-service type offerings. I think it is part of a natural evolution when you have a good platform that is growing and gaining momentum.

Dries Keynote

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 - 14:07

Greetings from DrupalCon 2011 at the Sheraton in Downtown Chicago. Mediacurrent has several team members in attendance, and we have a company information table setup at booth 31 in the exhibit hall if you want to stop by to say hello.

I'll be keeping a log of highlights from the sessions I attend each day during the conference. After Dries' keynote this morning that reviewed Drupal 7 and outlined plans for Drupal 8 process, Tuesday is starting with an overview of the Media module, followed by sessions about client and project management.

As a Drupal developer, I am constantly trying to streamline and generally make my processes as efficient as possible. With that said, I have seen tremendous value incorporating Features in just about everything that I do Drupal-related. Recently, I shared a snapshot at a Mediacurrent staff meeting of a more in-depth presentation I would like to do at the upcoming Drupalcamp Atlanta.

Wow, I am finishing up what has turned out to be an action-packed few days during Drupalcon 2009 in Washington D.C.  In a word the conference has been AMAZING.  In addition to myself, Chris, Derek, and Josh from Mediacurrent were here.  Most of the presentations and Birds of Feather (BoF) groups I attended were focused on the business track.  My colleagues immersed themselves in the more technical sessions.

If you are in the metro Atlanta area, and have an interest in web technologies, content management systems (CMS), open source, or of course Drupal in general you should  check out one of our next Atlanta Drupal User Group (ADUG) meetings.  We usually meet on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday every month and start around 6:30pm.   The meeting on the 2nd Tuesdays are workshops designed to break up into small groups where topics of interest are broken down and tackled.  The 3rd Tuesday meeting provides an opportunity to hear insightful presentations from industry leaders.  Both meet-ups have something different to offer, but are unintimidating, laid back, intellectually stimulating, and a socializing component.  We bring together a cross-section of individuals (beg
