After completing 10 weeks (70 hrs) of very intense classroom training in Mike Anello's Drupal Career Starter Program (DCSP), and many more hours of research inside Drupal.org and Planet Drupal, I’ve started my adventure into the actual working environment of Drupal.  I wish to share my first week’s experience as an Intern at Mediacurrent with the Drupal Community and my recently graduated classmates.

Don't you just hate it when you have to go back to the isolation of Drupal work when the latest Meetup, Camp or DrupalCon is over? Are you a freelancer, telecommuter, or remote Drupaler and just want more Drupal people in your life? Sometimes you just want to bounce ideas off of like-minded individuals. We understand, we are the exact same way!

Mediacurrent is starting a pilot program called Drupal Coworking Friday. The program, in a nutshell, is to get Drupal Professionals together in a local space at the same date and time each month for some coworking.

In the beginning of the year, Mediacurrent announced an alliance with Open Source Training. For the past few months, the partnership remained largely dormant as we found it difficult to balance the demands of Drupal site-building, while expanding our training services. Ultimately, we decided that we needed a dedicated resource to exclusively focus on Drupal training initiatives. With that said, we are pleased to announce Jordan Schmitt as Mediacurrent’s new Director of Drupal Training.

I got involved with Drupal in 2007 when I decided I wanted to build an online community of young people interested in politics in order to encourage their interest and activism. I got my first hosting account on my dad's recommendation, and it came with an installer for a large number of open-source software in a variety of categories.

Mediacurrent

2010 has been a busy year for Mediacurrent. We have nearly doubled in size with the recent additions of Dante Taylor, Roger Soper, Steven Jackson, Jeff Diecks, and Kathy Sommerfeldt. We attribute this expansion to our customers, some amazing partners, and most importantly Drupal.

This week I had the pleasure of attending the final round of the InVenture Competition at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta.   InVenture is an innovation competition for undergraduate students at Georgia Tech. Students can work independently or in teams to develop and present inventions, which will be judged by an expert panel.

If you are in the metro Atlanta area, and have an interest in web technologies, content management systems (CMS), open source, or of course Drupal in general you should  check out one of our next Atlanta Drupal User Group (ADUG) meetings.  We usually meet on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday every month and start around 6:30pm.   The meeting on the 2nd Tuesdays are workshops designed to break up into small groups where topics of interest are broken down and tackled.  The 3rd Tuesday meeting provides an opportunity to hear insightful presentations from industry leaders.  Both meet-ups have something different to offer, but are unintimidating, laid back, intellectually stimulating, and a socializing component.  We bring together a cross-section of individuals (beg
